The Montana saw two design generations during its tenure. The initial design caught some serious heat from industry safety officials, as it reportedly did not perform well in crash tests. Further, consumers were skeptical of the aesthetic that Pontiac was going for with the model, as it looked too much like a “minivan”. Tastes had changed in recent years, with more consumers opting for SUVs to meet the same ends that minivans once provided. The second design generation, however, raised the front-end of the Montana, making the vehicle look much more like an SUV. Though this helped to some extent, Pontiac was already “on its way out” at this point.
