How do you Change, Replace, or Install Broken 1997-2003 Chevrolet Malibu Blower Motor Speed Resistor Replacement

Fits years: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003

All Chevrolet Malibu for sale Tools required:

  • 7mm socket/ratchet with extension

  • 7/32 socket/ratchet with extension

  • Flathead screwdriver

NOTE: Everything mentioned in this installation guide is located near the PASSENGER'S feet on the interior of the vehicle.

Step 1: Disengage the retaining pin (1) and remove the trim panel nearest the PASSENGER'S door.

Step 2: Loosen and remove the 7mm bolts (2) that secure the trim panel to the underside of the dash. Remove this panel.

Step 3: Remove the light bulb from the small courtesy light.

Step 4: Disengage the computer box from the dash, and move it out of the way.

You don't have to disconnect it!

Step 5: Disconnect the blower motor's wiring harness (1).

Step 6: Disconnect the speed resistor's wiring harness (1).

Step 7: Loosen and remove the 7/32 mounting bolts (2) that secure the resistor to the blower motor assembly. You can now remove the resistor.

Step 8: Mount the new speed resistor by tightening the 7/32 mounting bolts (2). Connect the component's wiring harness (1).

Step 9: Reconnect the blower motor's wiring harness (1).

Step 10: Reattach the computer box by sliding it back into its retaining clip.

Step 11: Reattach the courtesy bulb.

Step 12: Tighten the 7mm bolts (2) that secure the trim panel near the PASSENGER'S feet.

Step 13: Re-engage the retaining pin to reattach the small trim panel nearest the door.
