2001-2007 Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner Front Power Window Regulator Replacement

Tools required:

  • 10mm socket/ratchet with extension

  • Phillips screwdriver

  • Flathead screwdriver

  • Tape (Painter's tape recommended)

Step 1: Open the vehicle's door.

Step 2: Pry and remove the screw cover (1) inside the interior door handle. Loosen and remove the Phillips screw (1).

Step 3: Pry and remove the screw cover near the door hinge. Loosen and remove the Phillips screw (1).

Step 4: Loosen and remove the Phillips screw (1) inside the door pull.

Step 5: Loosen and remove the Phillips screw (1) near the door latch.

Step 6: Pry and remove the interior door handle's bezel.

Step 7: You can now pry and remove the interior door panel from the door frame. Lift and remove the panel from the door frame. Disconnect the wiring harness (1).

NOTE: A series of retaining clips secures the panel to the door frame. You will hear them "pop" as they disengage.

Step 8: GENTLY peel and remove the water shield. Loosen and remove the Phillips screw (1) to remove the mounting bracket.

Step 9: If your window regulator is still functioning in some capacity, reconnect the power window switch and lower the window until you can reach the mounting bolts (2) at the bottom of the pane. If your regulator is completely broken, you can use your hands to lower the window pane.

Step 10: Loosen and remove the 10mm bolts (2) that secure the window pane to the regulator rail.

Step 11: Lift the window pane UP, and secure it to the top of the window frame using the painter's tape.

Step 12: Disconnect the regulator motor's wiring harness (1).

Step 13: Loosen and remove the 10mm bolts (5) that secure the regulator/motor assembly to the door frame. You can now slide and remove the window regulator assembly from the vehicle.

Step 14: Mount the new power window regulator assembly by moving it into position and tightening the 10mm bolts (5). Connect the motor's wiring harness (1).

Step 15: CAREFULLY lower the window pane onto the regulator rail. Tighten the 10mm bolts (2) to secure the window to the regulator.

Step 16: Reattach the water shield and mounting bracket.

Step 17: To reattach the interior door panel, simply reconnect the wiring harness (1) and reverse the removal process.

Using a firm, but not TOO FIRM, strike near each retaining clip, you can "snap" the panel back onto the door frame. Tighten the Phillips screws (4) and reattach the screw covers (2). Also, be sure to reattach the door handle's bezel.
