How do you Change, Replace, or Install Broken 1998-2011 Lincoln Town Car Spark Plug Replacement

Fits years: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011

All Lincoln Town Car for sale Tools required:

  • 7mm socket/ratchet with extension

  • 5/8 spark plug socket/ratchet with extension

  • 8mm wrench

  • Flathead screwdriver


Step 1: Using the 8mm wrench, disconnect the negative battery cable.

NOTE: For the plugs on the DRIVER'S side of the vehicle, remove the air intake hose by loosening the clamps (3) with a flathead screwdriver and disconnecting the hose connections (2).

Step 2: Loosen and remove the 7mm bolt (1) that secures the ignition coil to the engine. You can now remove the coil from the vehicle.

Step 3: Disconnect the ignition coil's wiring harness (1).

Step 4: Using the 5/8 spark plug socket/ratchet with extension, loosen and remove the spark plug from the vehicle.


NOTE: Most spark plugs come "gapped", but just to be sure, use a gapping gauge to measure the gap to .054.

Step 5: Tighten the NEW park plug into position. BE CAREFUL not to over-tighten the spark plug!

Step 6: Attach the ignition coil by tightening the 7mm bolt (1). Connect the coil's wiring harness (1).

Step 7: Repeat this process for the remaining spark plugs.

Step 8: Reattach the air intake hose.
