1995-1997 Honda Accord 2.7L V6 Ignition Coil Replacement

Tools required:
  • 10mm socket/ratchet with extension

  • 12mm wrench

  • 8mm wrench

Step 1: Open the vehicle's hood.

Step 2: Disconnect the cable that runs from the distributor cap to the ignition coil.

Step 3: Loosen and remove the 8mm mounting bolts (2) that hold the distributor cap to the distributor.

Step 4: You can now slide the cap from the distributor.

NOTE: We will be removing the distributor rotor in the next step, but when we reattach it, it MUST be in the same position. To make this easy, we recommend either marking the rotor and the casing to ensure proper reinstallation or turning the car over to get it pointing STRAIGHT UP. Either way, be sure that the rotor is in the SAME position when reattaching it later in the procedure!

Step 5: Loosen and remove the 12mm bolt (1) that holds the distributor to the vehicle. You can now remove the distributor. Disconnect the distributor's wiring harness (1).

Step 6: Disconnect the ignition coil's wiring harness (1).

The ignition coil is exposed by removing the distributor in Step 5.

Step 7: Loosen and remove the 10mm mounting bolts (3) that secure the ignition coil to the engine.

Step 8: You can now remove the ignition coil from the vehicle.

NOTE: Be sure to retrieve the grounding washer, and attach it when you mount the new ignition coil to the engine.

Step 9: Mount the new ignition coil by tightening the 10mm mounting bolts (3).

Step 10: Connect the ignition coil's wiring harness.

Step 11: Reattach the distributor.

Remember to attach it in the exact same position as it was before!

Step 12: Secure the distributor by tightening the 12mm bolt (1). Connect the distributor's wiring harness (1).

Step 13: Reattach the distributor cap by tightening the 8mm bolts (2).

Step 14: Reattach the cable that runs from the distributor cap to the ignition coil.
