How do you Change, Replace, or Install Broken 2003-2012 Volvo XC90 Engine Air Filter Replacement

Tools required:

  • None

Step 1: Open the vehicle's hood.

Step 2: Locate the air box assembly on the DRIVER'S side of the vehicle.

It's the large, rectangular box with the air hose running from it.

Step 3: Release the retaining clips (3) that secure the air box cover to the assembly.

Step 4: Disconnect the air flow sensor's wiring harness (1).

Step 5: Lift and remove the air box cover.

Step 6: You can now remove the air filter (1) from the air box.

Step 7: Insert the new air filter into the air box.

NOTE: Be sure that the air filter is properly situated in the air box. When properly installed, there shouldn't be much "play" in the filter inside the assembly.

Step 8: Reattach the air flow box cover by re-engaging the retaining clips (3).

Step 9: Reconnect the air flow sensor's wiring harness (1).
