The Buick LeSabre is one of North America's longest tenured automobiles. Originally released in 1959, the LeSabre replaced the Buick Special, a model of similar stature created on the same platform. The popular sedan saw 8 generations of design evolutions before being discontinued in 2005. By providing a reasonably priced executive full-size sedan to the marketplace, Buick was able to position its brand as a luxury alternative to some of the high-priced competition in the industry. The “Lucerne” replaced the LeSabre in 2005, and despite being discontinued and reintroduced in the past, it would seem that Buick intends on burying the LeSabre permanently.
