How do you Change, Replace, or Install Broken 1993-1998 Volkswagen Jetta Side Mirror Replacement

Fits years: 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998

All Volkswagen Jetta Mirrors for sale Tools required:

  • T10 Torx Driver

  • Phillips screwdriver

  • Flathead screwdriver

>b>Step 1: Open the vehicle's door.

Step 2: Pry and lift the power window control panel. Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the UNDERSIDE of the switch.

NOTE: If your vehicle has manual windows, you can slide the retaining ring (at the base of the handle) to disengage it. You can then, quite easily, remove the window crank.

Step 3: Pry and remove the knob next to the interior door handle.

Step 4: Pry and remove the speaker's grille. Loosen and remove the Phillips screws (4) that secure the speaker to the door. Disconnect the speaker's wiring harness (1), and remove the component.

Step 5: Pry and remove the small trim panel near the side mirror mount.

Remove the mounting tabs from the BACK of the trim panel, and reattach them to the door frame (near the side mirror).

Step 6: Pry near the base of the interior door pull to remove the interior door handle's bezel.

Step 7: Loosen and remove the Phillips screws (3) exposed by removing the trim panel in Step 6:

Step 8: Loosen and remove the T10 screws (6) that line the OUTER EDGE of the interior door panel.

Step 9: Unscrew and remove the locking lever from the TOP of the door frame.

Step 10: You can now LIFT and remove the interior door panel from the door frame. Disengage the locking cable from the BACK of the panel.

Step 11: Pry outward on the back of the interior door handle and slide it forward to remove it from the door frame. Slide the assembly from the locking rod.

Step 12: Engage the locking rod to the door handle, and slide the assembly into place on the door frame. Be sure that it is secure before proceeding to Step 13!

Step 13: Disconnect the side mirror's wiring harness (1).

Step 14: Loosen and remove the Phillips screw (1) that secures the wiring harness plug to the door frame. You can now pry and separate this harness from the door.

Step 15: Loosen and remove the Phillips screws (3) that secure the mirror to the door frame. You can now remove the side mirror.

NOTE: Be sure to hold onto the side mirror while removing these screws, as you don't want to sweep up broken glass from your garage floor or driveway!

Step 16: Feed the wiring harness through the door frame, and tighten the Phillips screws (4) to mount the mirror and wiring harness end to the door.

Step 17: Connect the mirror's wiring harness (1).

Step 18: To reattach the door panel, simply reverse the removal process.

Be sure to tighten all Phillips screws, T10 Torx screws, and reattach all relevant trim panels.
