How do you Change, Replace, or Install Broken Toyota Camry Crankshaft Sensor Replacement

Fits years: 0

All Toyota Camry for sale Tools required:

  • 10mm socket/ratchet

  • 12mm socket/ratchet

  • 14mm socket/ratchet

  • Extension with flexible joint

  • 2 flathead screwdrivers (short and long)

Step 1: Remove the belt near your alternator to gain access to the crankshaft sensor.

To do so, remove the 14mm and 12mm bolts, and loosen the 12mm tightening mechanism.

Step 2: Remove the coolant reservoir.

The coolant reservoir should just "pop" right out.

Step 3: Using the short flathead screwdriver, depress the tab. With the longer screwdriver, separate the connection.

Step 4: Locate the crankshaft sensor and begin removing it.

The bolt to remove the crankshaft sensor is below the sensor itself. Using the extension and the flexible joint, remove the 10mm bolt.

Step 5: Using the larger flathead screwdriver, pry the sensor loose and remove it.

Step 6: Insert the new crankshaft sensor.

You should be able to feel the hold that the sensor slides into.

Step 7: Tighten the sensor's 10mm retaining bolt to secure it into place.

Step 8: Reconnect the electrical harness.

Step 9: Reattach the belt.

NOTE: Any time you remove a belt, always sure that you have replaced it properly. In this case, you'll want to be sure that it is around the air conditioning compressor, crankshaft and alternator.

Step 10: Tighten the belt.

Leave just a little bit of play for the belt. It should be firmly in place, but not too tight!

Step 11: Tighten the 14mm and 12mm alternator bolts.

Step 12: Replace the radiator reservoir.
