History
The Nissan Motor Company Ltd. was established in 1933 by Masujiro Hashimoto and now resides in Yokohama, Japan. Now the 6th largest global automaker, Nissan is known for durable engines that are often recognized by industry organizations such as Wards. Also a manufacturer of industrial equipment such as forklifts and marine technology, the automaker diversified its holdings by establishing Infiniti, a luxury automaker that helped to propel Nissan on a global scale.
When Datsun, a now defunct automaker, was purchased in 1933, Nissan began its auto making endeavors. By using American technology, Nissan was able to produce quality cars by mimicking the automakers in Detroit, Michigan. Through these international partnerships, the company was able to expand to North America and the UK, with the first vehicles arriving in the United States in 1959.
As the global economy shifted due to rising oil prices in the 1970's, Nissan capitalized on the pursuit of fuel efficient sedans, and before long, the brand had exploded, seizing a large segment of the global automotive industry.
Popular Models
The Nissan S30 was created in 1969, and now enjoys somewhat of a resurgence as many are restored today. This model was the predecessor to the Datsun 240Z, which in turn, led us to the incredibly sporty Nissan 240 and 300 Series Coupes. The Sentra is the brand's popular “entry-level” compact, with the Maxima offering a more luxurious appeal. The Altima is the brand's mid-range sedan. Nissan recently added the Versa, which is an incredibly compact car that has attractive pricing for many purchasing their first vehicle.
With a new electric car, the Leaf, currently being distributed and a line of SUVs and minivans, the automaker has diversified its offerings nicely, and enjoys incredible success across the globe.
